Take Off Your Slippers…

Today I almost left the house, in my slippers,

so comfortable they are part of me.

With this comfort there is no strain, no stress,

no flexing of muscles.

This comfort is good,

good in slippers.

With this comfort in life,

you forget to learn, to stretch,

to feel the joy of something new.

In life you must flex those muscles,

rebel against complacency,

feel the strain, embrace the beautiful chaos.

Take off those slippers,

and step bravely into your new world.

  1. I like the uncertainty in this poem, with the inference the person won’t leave, but the possibility they might, and that that would be momentous.

    1. Thanks Ali, the uncertainty of change is always a struggle. My intent was to bring to light that staying in a place or a job just because its comfortable or easy to stay than to go isn’t healthy. Thank you for responding. I appreciate your feedback.
