For almost two weeks I’ve been hunched over my desk, doing schoolwork and making jewelry for upcoming Christmas Markets. Very productive…until...IT started. That aching pain up the right side of my neck, then a few days later over the right side of my head and eventually out my right eye. Has your eye ever felt too big for the socket?
This used to be a recurring situation, too long at my desk and I could feel my body reacting, I knew exactly what the result would be if I didn’t take of myself.
So what did I do?
I did what any normal person with a lot to do, would do.
Nothing.
I kept sitting and working, hunching and aching, running on the treadmill and lifting weights.
Why? Why do we do this? When our bodies (and minds and emotions) need help why do we just keep going?
It’s NOT sensible!
Today I went to physio. After some ultrasound and laser treatment she stuck needles in my neck and shoulder. It was fabulous. And because I took so long to admit I needed help, I need more help…so another appointment on Monday and then a couple more throughout the week. Thank goodness for health benefits.
I ask again, if we know its going to get worse because it’s happened before, why do we wait to get help?
Let’s agree to look after ourselves, it’s not useful to ignore pain.
Yep, same.

I also hesitate before I get medical help. But I’ve been getting better about this! I only have this one body, so I must take good care of it. Things I’m learning as I’m getting older…maybe maturing?! 🙂

I always think things will just sort themselves out.. Maybe the maturity thing is that as we get older is that things rarely get better on their own lol.

Agree! There’s a lot of maintenance taking care of the body. Got to keep it healthy while it’s still working. hahaha. I’ve got tinnitus and the doctor tells me to use white noise to cancel it out. Lovely…I guess it’s here to stay. 😉

Totally. Our body needs rest. Overexerting it won’t just miraculously fix a problem.
