Ego

When was the last time you agreed to be responsible for something, because you were flattered to be asked? And five minutes later thought to yourself ‘holy doodle, I don’t even know where to start, what was I thinking!?’

You’ve made a promise, you have to see this though.

Why did we say yes?

For some its about being a people pleaser, I’m definitely not a people pleaser. For others it’s about personal identity, the human need to have our self-worth validated by others, to make decisions that support our opinion of ourselves.

Ergo, it’s about Ego.

The reason this is on my mind is I’ve agreed to do a talk at an event and I’m freaking out!  What could I possibly say that would be of value to the folks listening?

And I’m shy. And… everyone who knows me is laughing hysterically…..

Stop laughing, it’s true!

Speaking in front of people is nerve racking, terrifying, my voice seems shaky in my head and my breath is gone. This isn’t the first presentation I’ve done, so what’s my trick to getting through it? Humour. If I can make people laugh with me, the pressure seems to slip away.

Okay, must remember to include humour, not too much, the subjects are serious; money, health, unemployment… so just a touch to help folks relax, help me relax.

There are only 18 more days to nail it, to make sure the people listening get what they need. I better get back to work.

    1. I’ve lots of ‘money’ knowledge having been a banker for most of my career. The Health and Routine piece will be personal experience and research, some knowledge from working in HR areas. I’m going through what the attendees are experiencing so it will hopefully be interactive and more of a sharing approach. Thanks for the luck, be sure to send good energy on Feb 12.
