Just another gym membership

My WordPress subscription just renewed and I realized its become exactly like the gym membership I had in my early twenties…something I pay for, want to have, and have good intentions toward….and never use.

So as I sit here watching the snow and drinking a coffee, having a few intentional minutes of peaceful silence before properly starting my day, I’m making a commitment to spend this money wisely.

I’m making a commitment to write something everyday. Hmmm everyday might be a lot. Three times a week. Will I have anything to say three times per week? Probably not. Let’s start with once a week. OMGoodness…. and we are back to the gym membership cos we all know once a week becomes every couple of weeks, then once a month and then never. Bah!

I think part of my problem is overthinking it, what we write doesn’t have to create a transcendent experience (using Marthas RDP word of the day). It can just be fun, or quiet or make sense only to the writer.

A friend recently posted on Facebook to just do what we can when we can, sometimes we have more in us than other times and that’s okay. You do what you can.

Right now what I can do is pour another 1/2 cup of coffee and go back to watching the snow fall and enjoy a few more minutes of peaceful silence.

To thank you for reading here is a photo of our sweet Zoey who loved the snow.

Have a lovely day everyone.

  1. Here’s my story. When I started this blog in 2013, my goal was to garner attention to my novels. I thought the people who wrote to the daily prompt were idiots. Truly. I was teaching 7 writing classes. I had a long commute every day. I had almost no time for myself. I discovered the peace of getting up early (4:30)making good coffee, hanging with the dogs and writing a post. The prompts were too often based on Cranberry’s songs, but I wrote them. I had no idea that 1) ultimately it would form a community, 2) I knew I was a writer, but the “write every day” thing? Never penetrated, Then it did. I don’t always feel like it, but now? It’s second nature. Plus, when I try to stop the dogs are confused. They’re used to this as part of their morning. So there you go. I never anticipated being here 12 years later.

  2. Oh, how I know this story… I really wanted to post twice a month (or at least once a month) this year, but I guess I didn’t want it enough… Life has other plans.
All in all, we do what we have to do.
    You’ve got snow already? Brrrr
Stay golden, whether you post here or not!
