This last few days have been a whirlwind of activity, first preparing for family arriving (groceries, booze, decorating, making beds, presents for kids) and then entertaining.
Fabulous time had by all…or so they said, I choose to believe them.
But what’s the best part when friends and family come to stay?
The first night of ‘I’ve missed you’ ‘We need to visit in the summer, it’s freezing here’ ‘Open the second bottle of gin’ ‘Turn this song up!’ ‘Is it REALLY 3am”?
The second day of laughter as everyone else discusses the kitchen dancing and you quietly put the empties outside and then look for asprin?
The third day when you all pile into the vehicle and head downtown to visit a couple of touristy sites even though it’s minus 23 degrees celsius outside, minus 29 with windchill?
The evening of everyone sitting quietly reading and chatting, sudden bursts of laughter that make others look up asking what’s so funny?
Or unlimited cheese and crackers, chips, eggnog, cookies and wine?
ALL OF IT!
Each and every moment that makes a memory, every photo, every “hey kids are you hungry” “hey kids stop that” “who wants to go for a walk” “who spilt coffee” “did we blow out all the candles” “what’s the dog eating”.
Treasure the time with family, with friends who have become your family, celebrate in the way you choose and when you choose.
Make a memory.
I love this and can picture everything you wrote, which in my eye, is the sign of a good writer. You have captured holiday’s beautifully.

I agree with you.
This is happiness, this is love.
Family, friends, fun times.
Best times of our lives and now is the time to invest in family.
Friends and families disperse sometimes, this is why we need to re-group and stay in touch.
May you have many, many more gatherings like this.
