I’ve just returned from a wonderful vacation in Costa Rica, specifically Tamarindo and Playa Langosta. What a beautiful country.

There were five of us: my sister (it was her birthday), two girlfriends and my husband. Yes, he was there with four women.

Travelling with other people can be stressful; will there be one person who wants to sit up late drinking gin and tonics listening to the ocean (it was me), is there someone who gets up really early (she was quiet and put the coffee on), will there be folks who want to shop, (yes, and they went together).

Meals can be tricky…allergies, preferences, timing…sit inside, or the patio, or on the beach…eat at home? share an appetizer? split a meal? mimosas with breakfast?

And how about the day trips? Is it rude to decline, to say that today you’re going to sit at the pool and relax?

HELL NO! “grab a towel, book and sunscreen, maybe a beer, set yourself down on that deck chair and we’ll be back at dinnertime”. 

If you ever plan a trip with a group make sure you all agree, its everyones’ holiday and people can walk the beach alone, sleep in, decline days out, eat ceviche at every meal, drink beer at breakfast, (or before breakfast).

Of course it’s nice to do things together as well.

Would I travel with this motley crew again? Absolutely, because I know there will be nothing to worry about.
